What's happening in Lake Tahoe?

soroptimist In South Lake Tahoe:

The Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe and Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra recognized several women with the Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards.

To be eligible, the applicants must be women. They must be the primary financial supporter for their families. They have to be enrolled in or be accepted in vocational or skill training program, or in an undergraduate degree program.

This year's winners are Tiffany Reid and Lisa Shafer. They will receive $2000 each. The cash award will help these women offset any costs that's associated with attaining higher education and to help pay for books, childcare, and transportation.

The Violet Richardson Award is also giving to recognize young teen girls ages 14-17 for exhibiting volunteerism. This year's winners are Riana Cerceo, Haley Dressell, Allyson Marchus, and Alejandra Medina. Each will receive $100.

The winners will be formally honored on March 8.
